GYG Committee
Welcome to the GYG Youth Committee
At GYG, we believe in empowering young people to have a voice and make a difference in their community.
Our Youth Committee is at the heart of this mission, providing a platform for young individuals to come together, discuss issues that matter to them, and actively contribute to shaping our youth programs and initiatives.
What We Do
Weekly Meetings
Our Youth Committee meets every Thursday to engage in open discussions about various topics and issues relevant to young people in our community.
We appoint a chair person and a deputy chair person who lead the group and help coordinate activities.
Youth Program Steering
Members of the committee play a crucial role in steering the direction of our youth programs at GYG. They provide valuable insights, ideas, and feedback to ensure that our programs meet the needs and interests of all the young people who come to GYG.
Engagement with External Agencies
We collaborate with external agencies such as Kent Police and the 5Rights Foundation to address important issues like tackling hate crime and promoting online safety. These partnerships, give young people a voice and help make an active difference to the local community and beyond.
Our youth group’s work with 5Rights Foundation played an active role in the work done for on the UK’s Online Safety Bill.
Advocacy and Representation
Our committee members have the opportunity to engage with local MPs and councillors to raise awareness about youth-related issues and advocate for positive change in our community.
The committee won a national award in 2022 at the #no2h8crime awards for their work tackling hate crime locally.
In 2019 one of our young people attended the United Nation’s international conference on the internet and spoke to a role of global representatives about the rights of young people online.
Fundraising
We organize fundraising events and activities to support various causes and projects that benefit young people in our community.
